Is this legit?

Last edited Tue Oct 3, 2017, 11:17 PM - Edit history (1)

So this happened. And the white text box completely blocks the text in the red field that claims to be from Microsoft, and the white box can't be moved or deleted in order to read what's behind it. I just opened things in a new window, but this thing is still lurking in the background, along with all the site tabs.

Any suggestions for how to proceed?

And thanks. Again!

UPDATE: Discovered that it came with a screechy yowl; tried to watch a music video and turned on the volume, yikes! Went to Task Manager, clicked on Edge. Took a few attempts, but it finally did the trick. Thing is GONE! Until next time, anyway...

I would reboot, and scan your computer for viruses and other malware just to be on the safe side. Microsoft never does things like that.

1) Download and run CCleaner. I know there were some issues with one version of this, but I have been using this for years, and it cleans out the nonsense. Run each of the modules.

2) If that doesn't work, there's one more solution, but I need to walk you through this.

I've had to do this on my wife's Mac and my mother-in-law's PC....it should work. This is more than likely ransomware that can be cleaned out fairly easily.

on the task bar and from the menu it brings up hit close. When you reopen your browser quickly close the tab the page is in before it has a chance to reload.
