Microsoft Works problem

I've been using Microsoft Works (from a CD that I got way back when) the past few years on my Windows 10.
Due to unrelated problems I reinstalled Windows 10 last night and have been able to download or reinstall all my programs,
and this morning reinstalled from the CD disk the Microsoft Word.

I can bring up the templates, etc but when I click on any to 'open' it won't respond.

I’ve tried the suggestion online to go to programs, and click on ‘compatability’, but that didn’t work.
One suggestion was to run the CD and click on ‘repair’, but I don’t see it. It just shows ‘install’.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled. It installs, but the trmplates won’t open.

Appreciate any/all help.

Thanks

Open Source, it opens/Edits doc, docx, xls, xlsx, etc, and the UI is pretty dang similar to Office.

Not sure if it opens an mdb (access db) as I've not tried. Probably can open powerpoint as well I'd think.

Uninstall and try to use the serial-number of your CD to download Microsoft Works from the Microsoft-website.

But it is time to abandon Microsoft Works. It was a half-ass program in its time, and I am frankly surprised you even got it to install in a windows 10 environment.

Like the suggestion above, open office is good. I strongly prefer Google docs. Both are free. I tell folks to go with open office if you deal in highly sensitive information and are more than a little paranoid (or if you publish very long documents with complex page numbering and very complex formatting - Google is a little short here). If you are like most people and the most confidential document you have is a secret family chicken recipe or a copy of your tax return, Google docs is a slam dunk (tens of thousands of companies and millions of people use Google docs).

What I had on Works was "Word PROCESSOR" (not "Word&quot , which fairly suited my documents needs, with minor episodes when I needed to convert something into Word for other people.

But when I replaced the laptop and installed the Works cd, Processor became very buggy, specifically with the Cut/Pasting from the web text, updating the Processor document: As soon as Paste was tried, the whole document (from before) would disappear. Now I have been using a Gmail draft for building text or Pasting directly into a DU dummy-post until the document is completed and THEN Copy/Pasting into the final document.

Have glanced Google Docs and it looks as good as Word but haven't used it fully yet.

But in Works, the Publisher module has been great for me for editing pictures and Saving into .jpg and am still using it.

For more detailed instructions, from the menu bar: Help > OpenOffice Help (F1), then search for 'Envelopes'.
