Anybody have a Ring doorbell?
It sounds like it does everything I want, except I don't have (or want) a smart phone. The box is somewhat ambiguous about compatibility with Windows 10 "devices", tablets, etc, but the salesmen assured me that it works perfectly with Windows 10 on the desktop/laptop.
Well, I can't even seem to manage to download the software. For one thing, Ring require me to get my software through the Microsoft App Store, and that continually fails with an "Oops, a problem on our end" error. I've never used the App Store in the first place and I don't understand the point of it either.
In the small print, the Ring software requires Windows 10 Fall Creator's update which I've never managed to install either.
Why are Ring doing this? This is straightforward, fairly basic software. Why not provide an app that runs on, say, Windows 7 and up and allow users to download it from their own website? Why are they making this so hard to do?
No response to my emails yet to Ring, so this whole thing might have to go back to the shop. Pity.
Did anybody make this work without a Smart phone?
