Bluetooth mouse not working

Yesterday I switched out one of my hard drives - a 6TB for an old 3TB - no problems at the time. I partitoned and formatted the new drive, then copied the contents of one partition off the old drive,no problem.

I wanted to wait until the evening was over to copy the other two partitons, but suddenly the bluetooth mouse stopped working. I got out the bluetooth mouse for my laptop - nothing. I've uninstalled the mouse and the software, rebooted the computer to let it reinstall (which it did), nothing. I checked the bluetooth service (which was off), restarted it, nothing.

I've back and forth between the two different bluetooth mice, one a Microsoft the other a Logitech, at each step, nothing.

Any suggestions? When I go into town today I'll pick up a wired mouse but at this point I'm concerned that won't work either! Using Win 7 with a non-touch screen is pretty much a PITA without a mouse.

1. Did you check under device manager to see if there is a btooth driver issue?

2. No Bluetooth driver - a USB interface device

Since the dongle for the bluetooth mouse plugs into a USB port, I think that is it. I've checked and reloaded drives for that, no change.

3. There would need to be a driver if its blue tooth

Even with a dongle. Go into control panel and find devices and printers and click add device to see if the device shows up. Are you sure its btooth? Do you have another USB port?

5. not sure it is bluetooth - Microsoft Mobile Mouse 4000

Progress - I got out my laptop (tired of trying to read and post from my tablet). The MS mouse does not work on the laptop. The Logitech mouse DOES work on my husband's laptop. He's going to bring it back downstairs to see if it will work on my desktop with the MS mouse unplugged.

OK, just as I typing, my husband brought the Logitech in and it works fine on the desktop computer. I guess the MS mouse was screwed up and since its dongle was still plugged in, it was blocking the other mouse from working.

8. Me, too - whew!

This computer is five years old but it still does what I want. I really don't want to replace it for another two years. I was worried something had gone wrong with the motherboard!

I just have to remember that these wireless mice can screw each other up when they go bad. Oh - and they are not bluetooth like I thought.

4. I have a Logitech and sometimes have to press the sync button on the mouse or change the battery

And I have an old windows 7 computer.

POS cheap thing just is not good.

See my message above - the MS mouse is dead - once I unplugged its dongle from the computer (it was at the back where I had trouble reaching it) the Logitech is working. I dislike the Logitech, the buttons are not responsive and the wheel is clunky.

We have to go to Office Deopt today - I bought a new printer/scanner last week and if we take the old one in, they will give us $50 credit. So while I go for physical therapy, my husband will take the printer in and buy a new mouse.
