Anti-virus out there? I just bought a new laptop and want to load the software first thing.
Thanks!

(8,578 posts)I'm not sure every anti-virus application is listed on this site, but there's enough of them listed to give you a choice.

(43,049 posts)Nobody going to crack your computer to read your posts or emails. There might be malware floating around to randomly hold yourcomputer for ransom, or use its spare cycles for bitcoin mining, but it seems Windows is pretty good at catching that stuff. Add Malwabytes to the mix for some other stuff and you're good to go.
There is no '"best" antivirus. Most excel at a few things and suck at others. And sometimes they can interfere with each other if you have too many working. Too many could be just two.
Remember, no antivirus is going to find the guy at the cafe reading your bank statements or bagging your credit card info because you logged on with an insecure connection, or went to dark web porn site. Fundamental protection starts with you.
