SO FRUSTRATED!
MS, in their wisdom, removed or hid the ability to print WORD docs from file explorer in their right click menu. I can print PDFs, but not WORD docs (go figure).
I installed a print icon some time ago on the ribbon, but it is grayed out - doesn't work.
When I right click a share command comes up then prompts me to make sure other device has nearby sharing turned on in "action center" (WTF??). I have a wireless HP printer. Do I need to change a setting on it?
Thank you!!

(7,543 posts)Is your hp printer connected wirelessly to your home network wifi? Is your computer also connected wirelessly to your network or via network cable direct to a switch, router or modem?
The reason I ask is that some hp printers also put out their own signal to which you can connect wirelessly point to point. Or you can configure it to connect your home wifi.
Your greyed-out printer icon might have to do with which connection to your printer is represented.

(25,904 posts)Happy to report I had a successful intervention with a MS technician, "Lucy"!
Worked great!
Here's what she fixed: when I right clicked the doc file I wanted to print, the drop down (context menu/box?) box has a line for "properties." Apparently the connection to Word was out of whack (technical term ) and so, file wouldn't print! She noticed it because the icons didn't have the "W," only lines. I think it's going to be an issue with .doc v. .docx documents, now that I poke around in my folders.
All good now!
I have been struggling with this for HOURS over several MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So happy now.
Taking the rest of the day OFF!!!!!!!
