[UPDATED] Why does my bluetooth keyboard's shift key function like backspace? (Android)
This is driving me nuts. My text messages keep backspacing over themselves, and it's hard to say anything intelligible. It didn't used to do this, so it's stuck in some sort of mode. Googling hasn't been helpful.
I don't think it's just the shift key either, as it seems my messages wipe themselves out when I don't type anything for a while either, but shift definitely backspaces every time.
This is on my Android phone.
Thanks in advance!
ETA: This is the left shift. It still works as a shift, though. The right shift produces a vertical bar.
UPDATE: Asked this question on the Amazon page for this product and immediately got a response from the manufacturer. We went back and forth a few times, and the manufacturer have now agreed to ship me a new unit.

(4,044 posts)when pressed, each key causes a few circuits to connect. The particular pattern of circuits is unique to each particular key.
Each circuit is shared by multiple keys. If one of those circuit is contaminated, it can affect the function of multiple keys, often causing them to act like other keys.
Is there a way to "reboot" your keyboard? Maybe pulling the battery? I'd try that.
After that, try taking the keyboard apart and blowing any dust or liquid out of it.
Good luck!

(6,261 posts)It's one of those little foldable deals. It has a connect button on it, but that's about it.
I've blown it as clean as I can make it but it makes no difference. I really think this is a "mode" thing somehow, but the phone has no settings for the keyboard. Maybe I hit some sort of function key combination to put it into this mode somehow.
Google seems less useful every day....
Thanks for the response!
