Windows 10 will not allow me to save a cropped photo

When I click on my pictures icon, it opens a window called photos, it has a few options to use rotate & crop
being the main 2. When I crop a photo and go to the lower right corner, the down arrow which says "more options"
brings up a "save" button but is not highlighted, and as soon as I move my mouse it disappears. When hitting
"save a copy" which is highlighted, it goes through the motions it always does but doesn't save the cropped
photo but saves an exact copy of the photo I was attempting to crop. So I now have a bunch of pictures that look all
alike and no cropped ones. This built-in software used to work.

Wondering if all the updates microsoft forces on me has something incompatible. Any help appreciated!

1. try clearing your browser history....

I could not post photos to twitter. Read on a help forum that I should clear my browser history because some kind of cache was full.

Sure enough, it worked.

2. There are other imaging software, as well as online sites to upload and crop

PhotoFiltre is a relatively small, free photo editor. It's kinda handy because it's quick with popular functions.

GIMP is a full-featured photo editor, but it's large, complex to learn, yet very good.

I don't know of an online editor, but I did use one a few times, just Google until you find the functions you need.

3. Whenever you create an image, run to through a product called MetaData Stripper before posting.

Clear out all Personal Identifiable Information, computer name, etc.

4. Knowing MS, that's probably a paid feature

Like, you must buy a license for the full-featured "Photos" application... just guessing

7. I used that a lot 20 years ago

I was wondering if it was still around. It was so much faster and easier to use than MS bloatware.

I recall I liked it so much I sent small contributions to its author often.

Curious to see the modern version.

6. Maybe you didn't actually crop the photo.

Perhaps ... you only set it up for cropping and did not finish the act by neglecting to click [okay] or [done] or [whatever].

8. I've been trying to repo your problem

...without a lot of success.

I've noticed that the Save button isn't enabled until after you make a change that needs to be saved, e.g. after you drag the handles to crop the image.

At that point, if you point to the Save command, it should be enabled. If it's not, then perhaps you're trying to edit photos in a read-only location (such as a CD-ROM, a high-integrity data folder, or a network location that you don't have permission to modify).

Have you tried using Explorer to copy the current image to a new location, one where you're sure you have write access?

I found a few procedurals that talk about reinstalling the Photo app, but that seems like overkill. I suspect the problem is something far simpler.
