ARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!! I freaking hate that Microsoft edge pop up that asks me if I want to
turn on my Widgets!!!!! I was able to turn them off (the widgets) and I thought the damn thing would go away but it didn't. And I tried to look up how to get rid of Microsoft completely on my puter but they said to use the command prompt and something is wrong with it so that when I try to type or paste it just keeps repeating itself.
ANYWAY - Does anyone know how to get rid of that thing? It pops up from the left of my computer and covers 1/2 the screen and I have to figit with the mouse until it goes away.
I'm thinking I may have to take this thing to the Geek Squad because the solution might be above my pay grade - so to speak.

Am I bereft because I haven't had that request?

(18,122 posts)Go to Settings.
In the search settings box type "Notifications & Actions" and go to that window.
I've turned pretty much everything off on that page. YMMV.
After you've done that, click on the Settings Home icon, top left hand side. From this screen select Privacy.
Deal with everything you don't want to see by turning them off.
Of course, it's possible that this is an Edge thing and you'll need to look for the settings yourself because I've never used it. Maybe you should consider another browser.

I ask because in much the same way that Edge was shoved down everyone's throats, the Windows 10 installer is very, very keen to have you do everything through a MS account. Corralling you into their sites is their aim (and Google, Twitter, Facebook and the rest of them) to keep you captive.

(7,543 posts)You can choose Chrome as your default browser in app settings.
Edge is going to be your default PDF reader as well.
Download Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. It's free. But be careful to deselect the partnered McCafee antivirus before downloading. And make sure you are downloading the free reader version and not the Pro trial version.
Then go to default apps by file type
Scroll to .PDF, click and select adobe
Also go to start up apps and turn off Edge.

(11,695 posts)It has nothing to do with the Edge browser.
Right click your taskbar, left click on taskbar settings, turn off widgets.
I made a video for you, view the video full screen.
