Ugh. Firefox 99.0 (64-bit Win8.1) wants to install updates *EVERY* time I restart it.

Has anyone else had this problem ? Any idea what's causing it ? Anything to do besides wait for the inevitable next release ?

1. I'm on 99.01. I haven't had FF update problems in many months.

What happens if you let it update?

2. It briefely runs the installer, with no obvious problem. Next time I restart the program, it does it

again. It's like it's just not registering the fact that the d/l'ed code has already been installed. Is there a special FireFox folder where these upgrades are kept ? Could I just delete the latest one ?

3. You might have some file corruption in the FF program files. Try these suggestions:

Reboot. If that doesn't work ...

Uninstall FF, then reinstall FF. If that doesn't work ...

Reinstall Windows. Consider upgrading to Win 11.

I just made the change from Win 8.1 to Win 11. It's been pretty good after I got used to it. It's certainly more stable. I had multiple computers running 8.1. They frequently crashed especially on shut down, causing reboots instead of turning off.

4. AHA! The *latest* release just got upgraded to 99.0.1 -- wasn't there last time I checked.

Which was probably yesterday. Problem seems to be gone now.

5. I stopped upgrading FF a long time ago.

It stopped being compatible with add-ons, themes, etc that I like so I stopped right
there. They warn of a security risk but I haven't seen anything to be concerned about.

6. I stopped updating Firefox with the 88 version.

Just to be safe, I have always waited a couple of weeks before installing a new update for any app, browser, OS, etc..Went over to a friend's house just after he had downloaded the new version, and I absolutely hated what Firefox had done to the browser with the latest so called "update". He hated it too and was hoping they would fix the damn thing. I stayed with the 88 version and still use it today.

make some of the add-ons I like work. I have Exploder and Edge on my PC in case I really need them. Any time I buy something or do any other financial transactions I use Edge just to be safe. But I prefer the older FF day-to-day.

8. It was a brutal weekend in the online software category

Everything slowed, somethings wouldn't load, no amount of reboots, router clearing, or tweaks worked. It's better today so far so it was probably major line work somewhere.......

Firefox is a pain. I also use Chromium lightly. They tell me Opera is good. But to start over with a new browser. ugh.

FF about is telling me updates disabled by my system administrator. WTF does that mean? Is that me? i see no place to enable updates, so I guess it's an ISP thing.

I should not complain. Linux Mint has made it to major OS level, it works great, does everything I want on old hardware.
