Restarting worked the first time but is there some known cause for this?

there are some additional techniques but this is the fastest in 5 minutes.

Advertisers can be on cheapskate servers and can use elaborate advertising code to track you. Both aspects will slow you. The combination will slow you more.

2. Second the notion: Ad blockers can help prevent malware downloads.

IMO, malware is delivered mostly through phishing (links in emails, messages and web pages) and via ads, which are rarely vetted.

Web sites just subscribe to some ad service now even knowing what ads will be delivered. They just see the dollar signs.

Ad-blockers, used in significant number, can transform the internet from a cesspool of spyware and malware into something better.

(and do support DU with memberships, so they don't have to show ads!)

One can add an ad-blocker in less than a minute.

3. And you should clear your browser cache

Sometimes that gets corrupted and causes pages to stall. Do all the above, then launch your browser and press control and shift and delete at the same time, then release all keys. Follow the prompts and delete the cached files and cookies. You will need to log bag into every site, but things should be snappier


In Mac, it’s command shift delete. But same thing otherwise

4. From your click, there are sets of steps

1. your click on a link
2. convert the link to a deeper and deeper IP address and
3. retrieve the contents going back to you.

abstractly: some concepts are “interrupt hierarchy” and “derefencing” ( saying hello to an address). “unresponsive “. means that someone is in an infinite loop OR a red stoplight.

By rebooting, we can get a clean interrupt hierarchy and an all new set of internal addresses.

(I may be taking liberties with some concepts and the names of some concepts)

6. If you're comfortable using the command line...

... close the browser, and (for windows) simultaneously press windows key + R to get the RUN dialog.
Then type "cmd" and press the "enter" key.
At the command line type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press the "enter" key.
To close the command line window type "exit" and press the "enter" key or just click the "X" at the top right corner.

5. Sometimes

Your network/wireless adapter needs to be reset. Restart does the trick.
