Extremely mild and benign computer porn
I prefer desktop computers simply because I can't be trusted not to drop an iphone into the sea.
Gaming machines give me best bang for buck for graphics, editing, the odd foray into HL2 in God Mode and a totally-inappropriate for my age set of gaudy case lights.
Several weeks ago I farewelled my old deskto. https://www.democraticunderground.com/109530970
Recently the replacement arrived. Crabby (I have a small network and name machines about the ocean) is a comparatively 'small' gaming machine, but in price, similar to Limpet was 12 years ago.
But WOW - has technology changed in the intervening years? Mid-tower cases replaced by micro-towers. Not THAT much smaller, just a few cms pared off all dimensions. But seriously, a much more aesthetic shape and size. Crabby has a magnetic, hinged glass door. I don't even have to undo screws to get inside.
The SSD hard drive screws directly onto the mobo. Get that? I'm gobsmacked. Room for three other hdds if I open the back side of the case. It's not a big SSD - only 240g. Storage is an old HDD but I'm so totally blown away by the speed of ssds in desktops that I'll prolly replace with a 1tb ssd.
More USB3 ports than you can shake a stick at.
CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 (6 core 12 thread). Gfx is Nvidia GTX 1650. Always been a fan of AMD and Nvidia - IMO gives you more bang for your buck. Anyhow, main thing is I'll be 70 in coupla years and I'm still like a kid with a new gaming machine!
