Need help with smart tv that can no longer access internet

The family has decided 99 yr old mom needs more care than I and fulltime caregiver can give her at home. She has been bedridden since she got covid 6 months ago. So we are moving her to a facility owned by a family friend. I want to move the tv I have now to her room. Problem is it's a Samsung that lost its ability to connect to internet. (AT&T did a diagnostic test and its the tv, not the connection.)
I called AT &T about getting service at new location. I don't want Direct TV, so they said the tv can be used with a Roku or something similar and must accept apps. I understand Roku can work without internet. But, can the "unsmart" tv accept apps? I don't think so. When I try the Smart Hub thing it won't do anything.
Any suggestions?
I suppose I could go ahead with Direct tv, I just don't like the dish thing.
Thanks for any advice.

Which the home should have. I think your tv is now a dumb tv. But it may work with a Roku or Fire and an internet connection, but I doubt it. Otherwise you can get a new tv, which are really cheap now. If you get another smart tv you won't need a Roku.

What I did was go to Menu, then Smart Hub, then did a "set up". It worked! Yea!!
I thought I had gone through everything, but your suggestion helped.
