Specifically a galaxy tab "a"?...tia
I've read conflicting reports that some os won't accept the drive. Android 10?

(4,999 posts)Because it takes a lot of power to drive the motor for a dvd, and the usb ports on tablets in general are built not to deliver power, just provide communications and also to receive power.
Just a guess though. If the external dvd drive has it's own power adaptor I could see it working.
You'll have to read the details for any particular drive you are considering to know for sure.

(7,891 posts)I agree with the poster above who mentions the power issue.
Beyond that, it's hard to imagine why it shouldn't work (especially if it is only for reading/viewing content), so please report any findings, because now I want to do it also.
