When internet items are washed off the internet
isn't there a place where they can be found? A memory hole of old entries?

(11,463 posts)1. It's not perfect, it's not every page, but archive.org
And I've archived a few pages there that I wanted available that I didn't think would likely be archived without explicit action.
For one, I wish they would archive old bus schedules.

(11,463 posts)3. YW 😊 The media found it quite handy last fall unsurfacing old campaign positions on abortion
Where previously RW candidates had been very hard-line, but in the wake of the Kansas referendum, for example, and polling swings, replaced those statements with marshmellow general statements like "I support the sanctity of human life" or somesuch. (And so...?) I think Blake Masters (U.S. senate candidate, Arizona) was one of those.

In Arizona, Blake Masters backtracks on abortion and scrubs his campaign website
Masters, the GOP Senate nominee in Arizona, said on his campaign website that he supported a "a federal personhood law" until Thursday., NBC News, 8/25/22

Well drat, the story doesn't mention archive.org.
NBC News took screenshots of the website before and after it was changed.
Oh well. I do remember though some stories like this involving various candidates where they found previous incarnations of campaign web pages on archive.org.

It's a good habit to simply save stuff if you think it's important and likely to be "washed."
5 terabyte hard drives are a hundred dollars or less now.
