Is there a setting in my DELL laptop that I need to activate that shows forum posts as read?

I've had a desktops and then laptops for years. I've been on DU since almost the beginning. Always when I would read a post it would turn from Blue to a light purple color which indicated that post was read.

I got a new DELL laptop earlier this year and I hate it. They changed so many things since the last one I had. One of the functions seems to be recording forum posts as read. It's not just DU, but a couple of other forums I follow. It's frustrating. I'll check the forums in the morning and read the posts. They change color indicating they've been read. I just open DU and every single post I read this morning shows as unread, not only the ones from this morning, but as I open all the pages of past posts, every single post from days ago show as unread.

Is there a function in Setting that I need to activate so that when a post records as read, it stays in that mode?

Not a big deal, just very frustrating to open up a forum and all the posts show as new when they've been read.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I do clear posts that I've read, or not interested. But I've always done that with my previous PC's. Fla Dem Jul 2023 #7

There are many and they are free. I use Firefox from Mozilla.org.. I can't find a setting in Firefox to turn off the color change.

I've never had the problem of them reappearing, or if they showed read, then when I open the forum later they appear as unread.

This is so standard that it's really tough to break it (spare you the details) but the elephant in the room is that links change color because you opened them. How does the browser remember this? It's in the history.

If you are in private browsing mode, history won't be kept. There may also be some hard to find "don't remember my history" setting.

So check your history. If it's empty, you have the big clue. If not, oops!
