Problem logging on to small older iPad

I do not even remember why I bought this thing and now I want to give it to a thrift shop. But I want to make sure nothing of mine is on it. I'm pretty sure it would have at least my Wi-Fi connection information and some kind of apple login thingy.

Trouble is I can't unlock it. It has a Bluetooth keyboard, and I can't manage to unlock just the tablet. It says press home key to unlock. Well I don't know what key on the keypad is considered home, and I don't think it's even connecting to the keypad.

Can anyone help me with either unlocking without connecting to the keyboard, my preference, or getting it to connect to the keyboard and knowing which key it is talking about?

If I can't figure this out, I guess my only other option is to take a sledgehammer to it. I have never liked Apple products, leading of course to the burning question why did I buy it, which I have absolutely no recollection of why, but I still don't really want to take a hammer to the cute little thing.

TIA

The "home key" is the round button on the bottom/edge of the iPad. Press that, and you should get to the login screen. You'll need your old pass code of 4 to 6 digits, depending on the iPad. Do you know your code for that iPad?

Thank you so much. I'm going to try to find that button. I thought I had looked at everything on both the tablet and the keyboard.

Usually it is the round button near the bottom or the right edge of the display. Access does not require the keyboard. It might require a password, but likely not if you don't know about it.

I did not see any button on the display, but I will go look again.

The Genius Bar. They can usually fix problems while you wait.

It's not real close, but I would drive to it rather than take a hammer to the cute little thing.

Knowing it was there was half the battle. I was looking for something around the edges or on the screen, and it was hiding in the bezel, the same color as the bezel and no backlighting. If anyone else who ever sees this has the same problem, turning it off and turning it on again caused it to present me with the login when it came back on. Thank you all so much.

I couldn't figure out how to do that either! I never liked Apple products.
