UPDATE: success! My daughter has a Samsung Galaxy 22

Last edited Wed Jul 31, 2024, 03:20 PM - Edit history (2)

It is less than 2 years old, and the warranty is expired. The battery failed and the case is swelling and hot. She has ordered a new phone, but told me she will have to transfer her data herself. The person she talked to said she shouldn't try to turn the old phone on, or use the charger. Said she just had to transfer the SIM card. Does anyone have advice for her to make the transer as easy and safe as possible? She and her husband are both tech savvy, but this'll be the first time she's had to do the transfer. Thanks for any tips!

UPDATE: She just texted me that she's got the phone set up and it's good She put the old phone in her soup pot lolol

She does need to transfer the Sim card to maintain her phone number. If the old phone can power up the provider can transfer any data using a smartswitch app that they can install at the store.

We've switched to new phones with Verizon on a couple occasions and never had to switch SIMs. They handled the transfer of the phone number.

She's good about going by the book Last night, she was frustrated about the dead ends. Maybe today will be better.

Try not to keep it inside or on anything that could burn. I’d consider taking it to a cell phone repair shop and replace the battery then transfer normally. That way you have a spare of needed.

If you’re going to try to turn it on and transfer data to a computer with that failed battery, do it outside just in case it decides to catch fire then

I'll pass along keeping it somewhere safe. Thinking of her house, it'll be a challenge.

I say "some" because backups don't always save everything by default.

She mentioned that. She said her most recent pictures showed up in one of those.

Thanks!
