What they dont tell you

I was at an electronics store last week, was very interested in a laptop. It was about half price, i3 with 8GB and an SSD. Decided to do more research.

This model is advertised all over the net. But I notice they do not mention the processor speed. Now I see why. It is 1.2 Ghz with a 4.4 Ghz boost speed. 6 cores, 8 threads in Windows 11 S mode. I have no idea how much performance to expect from such. Slow at 1.2, boost to 4.4.

I have a 1.1 Celeron with 4 cores and 4 threads. A tad slow on the graphics. II suspect boosting resolution to Full HD and adding cores would barely improve performance. And it has thirty percent less battery life.

So beware out there. A deal, a name brand, and an i3 may not be a very good deal.

It was beyond upgrading any further, so I now have a core-i9--Speed difference is like night and day.

You won't gain much going to a core-i3, IMHO. If you plan to keep it for awhile, I'd suggest at least a core-i7; if you've got the Benjis, it's worthwhile to go i9. It's almost always advisable to go as high up the power curve as you can afford, and then milk it for all you can.
