Pics lost from Iphone camera roll after update

I updated my iphone without thinking and lost all my pics and videos from camera roll.
But I found them on the macbook under gibberish named files in
Library>app support>mobile sync>backup

I would like to get the pics and videos on the phone again. But I suspect that cant happen unless I move them somewhere easier to find on macbook for syncing Any suggestions? Easiest way to solve the problem?

1. I you have a backup on iTunes

Plug your phone into iTunes

Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup

Check the date of the backup. Anything after that date will be lost.

2. Dont know if I do but Itunes is where I sync the phone

So I will plug in tonight and see if it works

Which iOS software version are running? I would suggest creating a free iCloud account (www.icloud.com) which will allow you to use "Photo Stream" - your camera photos are automatically backed up as soon as you take them. You'd need iOS 5.0 to do it though.

4. I'm bummed

It did not work. It even asks you if you want to restore from backup. But none of the old pics and videos showed up. I guess the strange files in backup in library were not what I thought or I simply failed to backup the camera roll pics at all before I tried the update. Live and learn
