Related: About this forumHi all, maybe one of you can help me...
Because I'm about to throw my laptop through a window, because every time I select text to alter (say, center and italicize), it changes like 6 frickin' pages of text. I'm using El Cap, Mac Office 2016 (I realize that's my problem right there, but it's too late). Any suggestions?
Note that I'm finishing a manuscript that is like 300 pages long and I've spent entirely too much time with this BS.
Thanks in advance.

(47,953 posts)Does this happen in another text editing program? I don't use that version of Office but is it possible you are in some odd mode in the program?

(6,328 posts)How are you selecting? Mouse, touch pad, ...?
Be careful not to let your hand drag across the touch pad. That can change your selections.
If you are using a mouse, disable your touch pad.
Use the keyboard shortcuts for menu actions. Moving the mouse/pointer to the menu can create or modify a selection of you are not careful and lucky.
Clean your mouse. Make sure the mouse is free of lint, fuzz, and crud.
Try using keyboard commands only for selecting and editing.
If none of this helps, reply to this message and we will try some other things.
Good luck.

(11,905 posts)I've copied and pasted the document into a new word file, in case there was corruption. It's still doing it...

It seems like if I select a section using the track pad, and then ask it to double-space (for example) from the toolbar, not the Word menu (if that makes sense), it seems to work. H/t to my friend for figuring it out before I chucked the computer at a wall.
Never mind, this only worked for a day...
