Has anyone ever ripped dvds to their iPad successfully from their Mac?

A quick search names something called Handbrake for copying dvds that you own onto your iPad for later viewing.

Has anyone had luck doing this without anything weird happening? I'm not a fan of loading unheard of software onto my MacBook.

Thanks in advance.

I used it to rip all my DVDs so I could add them to my iTunes library. Works like a charm.

but Handbrake has been around for years and is the trusted standard. It was simple and easy for me as a novice to rip the couple of DVDs I've wanted to copy.
