Dumb Bluetooth question

Is there a way or a setting to make phones and tablets stop automatically pairing with the last device to which they were paired?

Idk if that’s clear, so here’s the scenario:

I have a stereo and a small bt speaker, as well as an iPhone and iPad. I use all four frequently. But it never fails that whichever one I grab (the phone or tablet) and try to use with one of the speakers, the other device pairs up with it. The last device used with a speaker automatically connects when the speaker is turned on. So I then have to go locate the other device (phone or tablet) and manually disconnect it from the speaker. It *never* fails. It’s been driving me crazy.

I’ve tried only using the iPad with the stereo and the phone with the small speaker but it just doesn’t work out. Something always needs charged, or I am distracted and grab the wrong one ...
In short, I’m too much of a mess for something that structured.

Is there any way to have the BT on the phone and iPad NOT automatically and immediately connect to a speaker when the speaker is first turned on?
