would it help if the elected officials periodically ran ads that updated their accomplishments? Maybe if there were psa about action taken, bills introduced, laws passed, people might be more aware of things the people they elected are doing. And maybe would keep the officials in the public eye in a positive way.

I don't know if elected officials already do this.

1. I've always thought the news stations should do this.

A weekly segment, an hour long that's repeated a few times during the week so viewers have a chance to see it. Cover what's being voted on in Congress, what cases SOCTUS is hearing. Then maybe use some of the time to offer a refresher course on how government works. How does a bill get turned into law? What is the filibuster? How does a case end up at the Supreme Court? Maybe add some history, too. What were some critical rulings that SCOTUS made in the past that have impacted where we are today? How do you amend the Constitution? I think there's more of an audience for that type of programming than they realize. Then again, an educated public isn't what the 1% wants so it will never happen. Also, it's easier to spread conspiracy theories among ignorant people.

4. We have become so oriented toward looking

and not reading. You have good ideas and I wish more of us would try to stay focused when someone is trying to explain. Maybe part of the ignorance problem is that as time goes on, we humans are required to pay attention less and less. I think we're paying for that by not taking in enough information, and it gets easier to tune out, unless we really need to know.

5. I would much rather read & watch something, but yes, I think that's the minority view these days.

I wish more videos had transcripts.

I know it's not the responsibility of the news stations to do this, but unless breaking news happens after 2PM, MSNBC/CNN are nothing but the same stories hour after hour after hour. Drives me crazy that they don't take the time to actually educate/report on what's going on.
