"We are looking at a new model that's based not just on aid and assistance, but on trade and partnership," he said, giving as an example ways to help Tanzanians grow their own food and export goods.

"Ultimately, the goal here is for Africa to build Africa for Africans," Obama said. "And our job is to be a partner in that process."

Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete praised Obama and his predecessor, George W, Bush, who provided the country with millions of dollars in aid to prevent the spread of HIV, spending that Obama has cut in Africa.

Obama praised Bush's funding for AIDS treatment and the two will have a brief meeting in the country where Bush is attending a conference on African women organized by his institute.

Teeming crowds greet Obama in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AP) — Teeming crowds and blaring horns are welcoming President Barack Obama to Tanzania's largest city, where the U.S. president's likeness is everywhere as he arrives on the last leg of his three-country tour of the African continent.

Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their two daughters touched down Monday afternoon in Dar es Salaam, where a marching band awaiting them on the tarmac danced and played as dozens waved U.S. and Tanzanian flags.

Hundreds of young people lined the streets wearing t-shirts and sarongs bearing images of Obama, forcing Obama's motorcade to slow at times as it sped along a main thoroughfare that's been permanently renamed "Barack Obama Drive" — a sign that the visit from America's first president of African descent has resonated deeply with Tanzania's people.

Obama's message has been that African countries must work hard to strengthen good governance practices and ensure human rights abusers are held to account. He also pledged to foster further bilateral cooperation.

Lawrence O'Donnell showed a little clip today from when Michelle Obama was talking to Cokie Roberts about the role of being the First Lady, while sitting next to Laura Bush.

Michelle is so freakin' smart, beautiful, and wonderful!

I love the part when he talked of RFK.
He reached out to pick up a couple of boys, yet PBO's SS won't let him.

Thank you
