Obama’s climate plan in 3 easy bullet points (and a few sub-bullet points)

Congress isn’t going to play along, obviously, so Obama’s plan consists of executive actions his administration can take on its own. Even some of these could be blocked by Congress through budgetary moves, and others could be blocked by courts. But he’s at least going to give them a try.

The plan’s three main goals:

Cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions
Prepare the U.S. for the climate change that’s already happening
Lead international climate efforts
The goals within goals:

1. Cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions

Clamp down on CO2 emissions from power plants.
Spread renewables far and wide — utility-scale projects on public lands, solar on public housing, renewable projects on military bases, renewable electricity powering federal facilities.
Make lots of things more energy efficient – appliances, big vehicles, federal buildings, multifamily housing, mortgages.
Promote development of cleaner technologies — biofuels, advanced batteries, fuel cells, “advanced fossil energy projects” (scare quotes mine).
Upgrade the power grid.
Cut emissions of non-carbon greenhouse gases, like HFCs and methane.
Protect and restore forests, which sequester carbon.

2. Prepare the U.S. for the climate change that’s already here or already unavoidable

Help communities make their infrastructure and buildings more resilient.
Help create “sustainable and resilient hospitals” that can deal with climate-related health problems and meet needs during disasters.
Help farmers and ranchers adapt to drought and long-term climate shifts.
Plan to manage drought, wildfire, and floods.

3. Lead international efforts to fight and prepare for climate change

Work via the U.N. treaty process.
Pursue bilateral initiatives with China, India, and other big emitters.
Push to phase out fossil fuel subsidies.
Stop funding new coal plants overseas, and help other countries switch to anything but coal, even if that means natural gas or nuclear power.

There is so much more here~

President Obama's Plan to Cut Carbon Pollution
Taking Action for Our Kids

We have a moral obligation to leave our children a planet that’s not polluted or damaged, and by taking an allof-the-above approach to develop homegrown energy and steady, responsible steps to cut carbon pollution,
we can protect our kids’ health and begin to slow the effects of climate change so we leave a cleaner, more
stable environment for future generations.
Building on efforts underway in states and communities across the
country, the President’s plan cuts carbon pollution that causes climate change and threatens public health.
Today, we have limits in place for arsenic, mercury and lead, but we let power plants release as much carbon
pollution as they want – pollution that is contributing to higher rates of asthma attacks and more frequent and
severe floods and heat waves.

Cutting carbon pollution will help keep our air and water clean and protect our kids. The President’s plan will
also spark innovation across a wide variety of energy technologies, resulting in cleaner forms of Americanmade energy and cutting our dependence on foreign oil. Combined with the President’s other actions to
increase the efficiency of our cars and household appliances, the President’s plan will help American families
cut energy waste, lowering their gas and utility bills. In addition, the plan steps up our global efforts to lead
on climate change and invests to strengthen our roads, bridges, and shorelines so we can better protect
people’s homes, businesses, and way of life from severe weather.

While no single step can reverse the effects of climate change, we have a moral obligation to act on behalf of
future generations. Climate change represents one of the major challenges of the 21st century, but as a nation
of innovators, we can and will meet this challenge in a way that advances our economy, our environment, and
public health all at the same time.
That is why the President’s comprehensive plan takes action to:

Boehner: Obama climate proposal 'absolutely crazy'

President Obama's soon-to-be-revealed second-term climate change proposal is “absolutely crazy,” Speaker John Boehner said Thursday.
The Ohio Republican was incredulous when asked to react to reports that the White House plans to regulate carbon emissions from power plants as part of its climate change strategy.

“I think this is absolutely crazy,”
Boehner said at his weekly press conference. “Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when American people are asking, 'Where are the jobs.' "

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), one of the leading advocates for climate change rules, shot back that the House has become the "last refuge of the flat earth society."

Very comprehensive OP detailing these goals. Really important to get this out there. Just think all we could gain by having a Democratic Majority in all Branches of Gov!

These are actual Plans for our Climate Change Crisis and our Infrastructure.. which is something Koch puppets don't care about.

to address the problem. I know that Gore did also. However our President has the power of the office behind him. There will be opposition, but we can take a step forward.

I tried to go to the link 3 times and it said this "webpage cannot be found".

And, I googled it and it says this link is broken.. so, it's my computer or something else is happening.

But, I'm glad to see this beautiful reminder of what exactly is going on with Nature..
