I'm Yours~

President Obama doesn't want to lead a conversation about race

I think this is one of the things that pisses off the President's African American critics on the left. He didn't seek this job to be a civil rights movement leader. He sought it to be POTUS - and to be the best damn POTUS he could possibly be.

If you want to know what is absolutely driving the white male patriarchy nuts about our first African American president - its that he's succeeding in doing that. Their freak-out is all about the fact that their game of dismissing this black man as a "boy" who is out of his league is up.

That's the role Barack Obama chose to play in this struggle. It doesn't mean that its the only one that is needed in this country for us to continue on the path to a more perfect union - that requires an "all hands on deck" approach. But the integrity and competence he's bought to the office is an important piece of the puzzle.

And beyond that, there's this...

I'm Yours~

U2 City Of Blinding Lights Live (Obama Inaugural Celebration)

It was directly after singing their first song, Pride (In The Name Of Love) ~ U2 and they spoke about and to Obama. There is more at the link at the end of this post.

In a post-concert interview, Bono said that the 'Ideal of America' belongs to the world. That we own the country, but not the 'Ideal of America.'

Martin Luther King, Jr. said:

'I say to you that our goal is freedom, and I believe we are going to get there because however much she strays away from it, the goal of America is freedom.'

America is an Ideal in the process of being fulfilled. I believe that and it lifts me up.

City of Blinding Lights ~ U2

The more you see the less you know
The less you find out as you go
I knew much more then than I do now

Neon heart dayglo eyes
A city lit by fireflies
They're advertising in the skies
For people like us

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground....

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

Oh you look so beautiful tonight
In the city of blinding lights

Don't look before you laugh
Look ugly in a photograph
Flash bulbs purple irises
The camera can't see

I've seen you walk unafraid
I've seen you in the clothes you made
Can you see the beauty inside of me?
What happened to the beauty I had inside of me?

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

Oh you look so beautiful tonight
In the city of blinding lights

Time... time
Won't leave me as I am
But time won't take the boy out of this man

Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
In the city of blinding lights

The more you know the less you feel
Some pray for others steal
Blessings are not just for the ones who kneel... luckily

I may be an old lady, yet I'd still be willing to chase Bono down the street! Not that I'd stand a chance, but the exercise might do me good.

His version of Bloody Sunday is the best ever. In a direct line of descent from Irish patriots, I still feel that's a second national anthem for me. (You can take someone out of Ireland, but you can't take Ireland out of them or their descendants for untold generations.)

And I'm still grinning from ear to ear knowing there's even a drop of Irish blood in my favorite President.

The 'follow friends' function isn't enabled at DU yet. I miss a lot of people's posts as they are off in other caverns of DU. Feel free to PM me if you've found a good thread or post and I'll take a look.

When the infamous Meta forum was part of DU, it was how I found many threads that were 'below the fold' to use the newspaper term, of how they show on the indexes. Would see people talking about something good or bad and had no idea what was being debated.

Sometimes there was a argument on a Jury hide or a lack of one, would be in Meta and I'd find threads that had taken many turns and were fascinating and insightful on other people's experiences.

In the end, though, Meta was getting me soured on DU. There would be people I'd had on Ignore I saw a different side of expressed there and took off Ignore. We don't see all a person posts, we don't know them personally, either.

I'll mail you with the rest of this post for giggles, hahahhaha!

I double checked my journal to make sure it actually appeared as indicated; currently it's on page 6. Might be page 7 if I write much today.

Yes, I too anticipate the day when DU lets us follow friends so we don't miss so much. I have to admit that overall, there's more worthy material on DU than I can keep up with. A lot carries the odor of a city dump, true. But there are so many jewels to be found. Since I live alone and have less disposable income by the hour it seems, I do all the work that gets done at home (never enough) and try to control my reading passion by setting reasonable limits - otherwise I'd stare at a computer screen or book all day long. Anyway, I used to go through 3 or 4 books a week until I discovered DU. Now it's down to more like one book a week. Still time well spent - but a 'follow friends' function would help a lot.

I've had my eye on this man since forever it seems, and I remember all the foolish things his detractors said about how he was too young, too soft, too inexperienced, too out of touch - you name the barb, they flung it. And now, oh how that blows back in their faces. They must've forgotten Karma kicks like a mule, and it hurts! How it hurts! Now of course they've switched to saying he's too mean and autocratic. Etc., just so it's the opposite of what they tried to peg him before. Can't they ever make up their little minds?

God Bless Barack Obama! I say prayers for him all the time, for safety and guidance. If anyone had told me when I was young that I'd live to see such a day, I'd have thought they were only dreaming even if it was a good dream.

"Too White" "Too Black" and definitely that "too inexperienced" accusation.

The more I read about Senator Barack Obama.. the more I learned that he was taking real life experiences to heart at a very young age. It wasn't important that he hadn't been a US Senator that long.

And, some of his best "experience" came from being a "community organizer".

I appreciate him to no end and that means having his back and VP Biden's as they do ours.

even though I certainly know one person from the other, I dearly love to remind people that Jesus was a community organizer and that Lincoln was an 'inexperienced' senator as well.

The statement I make a little less often because I can't run quite so fast as in my salad years is this: "BTW, didja know Jesus is a socialist too?" If you ever hear a rumble from the MidWest, that's everybody in town running me out on a rail.

I'm sure they hate President Obama also because he's too handsome and too smart, not to mention too principled.

They know somewhere in that coal sack they use for a heart that he's the better man, and nothing they ever do can change that.

Thanks SunSeeker. He is a great man and he is our President!
