Bill Moyers: 'As the world knows, Trayvon Martin was stalked and killed by an armed vigilante'

Tom Diaz on Dangerous Gun Laws

Published on Jul 19, 2013

The death of Trayvon Martin has ignited debate not just over our justice system, but on legislation such as the "stand your ground" laws that contributed to the tragic result. Bill talks with author and gun control advocate Tom Diaz about how a lethal combination of self-defense laws and concealed carry laws -- championed by the NRA and the gun industry -- makes us more vulnerable to gun violence. He warns that the genie is out of the bottle and we should be gravely concerned about the unrelenting marketing of guns. Diaz's latest book is The Last Gun: How Changes in the Gun Industry Are Killing Americans and What It Will Take to Stop It.

Obama: Honor Trayvon Martin by battling gun violence

By Hasani Gittens and Elizabeth Chuck

A stunned Carmen Taylor bursts into tears in front of the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center after learning George Zimmerman had been found not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin on July 13, 2013 in Sanford, Florida.

"I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities," Obama said in a statement on Sunday.

"We should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that's a job for all of us. That's the way to honor Trayvon Martin."

His comments contrasted with bold statements from others that followed the verdict.

“Hallelujah!” tweeted conservative lightning rod Ann Coulter, a Zimmerman supporter, just minutes after the not-guilty verdict was announced...

Gun-Nut Threatens Author Tom Diaz; Here’s His ‘Response To A Coward’s Threat’ (VIDEO)

By Randa Morris July 25, 2013

Published on Jul 24, 2013

Video Description:

Wayne LaPierre has deliberately mobilized an army of haters who seek to destroy the First Amendment to save their sick view of their rights under the Second. A frequent tool in their arsenal is the anonymous threat. This is about one such threat.

The anonymous G. Wright wrote:

"Mr. Diaz,

On CNBC’s program “American Gun, Rise of AR-15” you posed a chest thumping, angry question to those who view our government as tyrannical. You asked ”Who’s face is it we would shoot?” It is your face Mr. Diaz. It is every face of every person that seeks to deny us our rights under the constitution. It is the face of politicians that moved to chisel our rights to the point where we can be provoked no more...”

"Look around Mr. Diaz. The people grow angry at un-American liberals. They will come for you someday, and you will not escape their justice."

...Diaz said to Addicting Info:

“This is not really about me. I think it’s really about the thousands of people–mothers, college kids, local politicians–who were so repelled by Sandy Hook that they decided to become active in their communities and online. I know that many of them have been threatened, some directly and some implicitly. Not to mention the threats that the President and other politicians get over this issue. I think it is crucial, not just on this issue, that we stand up to this kind of terrorism, which is what it really is.”

Reading the threat, it’s clear the anonymous G. Wright did not just threaten Tom Diaz. Instead he threatened “every face of every person” who wants to make the world safer by ending gun violence. Tom Diaz published this video, his very straightforward “Response To A Coward’s Threat” on July 24th. Watch the video to see what happens when you threaten someone who just won’t be intimidated by these kinds of right-wing terrorists.

We will win this fight.. it's taking a long time but we're not giving up. We have too many good intelligent fighters on our side. Who do they have? Frothing idiots.

who describe themselves as supporters of civil liberties.

I don't see a civil rights case but I hope that a wrongful death will bury Zimmerman.

Beautiful response by Diaz.
He called out the cowards that stand behind their mask of stupidity and hate.

Thank you for posting this thread. Many should take heed and listen to the words.
