Has Skinner talked about having some sort of fix for this or do?
A lot of people see our posts on home page and don't realize it's the BOG, or so they say.
Should every new thread here have a prefix of BOG: on it? Or the whole Barack Obama Group (some don't know what BOG stands for).
DevonRex
(22,541 posts)like Freshwest does is the best way. That way there is no possible excuse. Or BOG Post. Something. Then in the body, too, if you want to be doubly safe.
It sucks not to be able to discuss how bad it feels out there right now. But if we do, it'll be bad in here, too. If that happens, there is no place on Democratic Underground that posts positive news about Obama's agenda.
I don't know if everyone here is ready to concede defeat quite yet. Just going over the thoughts in my head right now.
Skinner has said before that the Obama Group will remain on the front, latest, greatest. People can trash groups they don't want to see. I agree with that. People who haven't trashed it want to see it for various reasons. If those reasons aren't good, we can block the person. Which I just did.

Skinner has suggested in AKA to those who are bothered by the BOG to trash the Group but I think they would still see it on the Home Page like I see threads on the HP that I have Trashed.
Just wouldn't be able to see it on the Greatest and hopefully not the Latest.
DevonRex
(22,541 posts)just like Skinner has suggested many times since DU3 started, if even seeing the words "For the BOG" is too much to bear.

(6,151 posts)GD is gradually losing me as a reader/responder. When I look through the list of subjects, I feel like I need to bathe in strong lye. But I'll surely fight to the last to keep trolls out of the BOG.
I'm sure most people know exactly what they're doing when they barge in here farting nonstop. A rare few newbies, perhaps well meaning ones, may not at first realize where they are. For their sake I think it would be best to begin OPs with "BARACK OBAMA GROUP" and maybe a brief statement as to the rules. Then land hard on repeat offenders.

(87,309 posts)Posting about what is happening on GD will bring in the ones that want to shut us down.
Skinner has answered that we will stay in GD. Thank you Skinner! I also know for a fact there are several unanswered questions in ATA about the BOG. I saw those posters discussing us in GD. They said they want to shut us down and planned to ask Skinner. Those were posted over a week ago. Skinner has not answered them. His silence has meaning. By his silence he is saying no to them.
Devon, I for one have no intention of being shut down. I do not concede defeat. None of us do. We have each others backs here. We will survive.
If our President can not be destroyed by the hate that is thrown at him every single day, why should we.
I have to say, we see this much hate for a black man as President. You have to wonder what we will see when a woman becomes President.

(94,518 posts)Hillary would not be spared an iota of the hatred spewed on the Clintons over the years by the RW. What is so gut-wrenching is knowing by now that so much of it will be coming from the "Left" at DU. Elizabeth Warren, currently everyone's darling, will eventually disappoint. No one will ever measure up -- better (in some twisted minds) to have another Bush or Reagan in the WH than to have a Dem who fails to live up to their personal fantasy of perfection.

(53,661 posts)Some say we should be purged from DU, or that our support of Obama was not in keeping with the DU, meaning they have not read the TOS, either:
Terms of Service
By registering a Democratic Underground account, you agree to abide by these terms. A single violation of any of these terms could result in your posting privileges being revoked without warning.
The Democratic Underground Administrators have a great deal of confidence in our system of citizen jurors and software tools, but we are well aware that trolls are constantly on the lookout for new ways to cause trouble and therefore on rare occasions it may necessary for us to revoke a member's posting privileges for reasons that are not covered by these Terms of Service. Because of this necessity, we retain the right to revoke any member's posting privileges at any time for any reason.
Don't be a wingnut (right-wing or extreme-fringe).
Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office. Teabaggers, Neo-cons, Dittoheads, Paulites, Freepers, Birthers, and right-wingers in general are not welcome here. Neither are certain extreme-fringe left-wingers, including advocates of violent political/social change, hard-line communists, terrorist-apologists, America-haters, kooks, crackpots, LaRouchies, and the like.
Vote for Democrats.
Winning elections is important therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground. But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.
No bigoted hate speech.
Do not post bigotry based on someone's race or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or lack thereof, disability, or other comparable personal characteristic. To be clear: This includes any post which states opposition to full equal rights for gays and lesbians; it also includes any post asserting disloyalty by Jewish Americans, claiming nefarious influence by Jews/Zionists/Israel, advocating the destruction of the state of Israel, or arguing that Holocaust deniers are just misunderstood. In determining what constitutes bigotry, please be aware that we cannot know what is in anyone's heart, and we will give members the benefit of the doubt, when and only when such doubt exists.
Don't go overboard with the crazy talk.
Democratic Underground is not intended to be a platform for kooks and crackpots peddling paranoid fantasies with little or no basis in fact. To accommodate our more imaginative members we tolerate some limited discussion of so-called "conspiracy theories" under the following circumstances: First, those discussions are not permitted in our heavily-trafficked Main forums; and second, those discussions cannot stray too far into Crazyland (eg: chemtrails, black helicopters, 9/11 death rays or holograms, the "New World Order," the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, the Trilateral Commission, the Freemasons, alien abduction, Bigfoot, and the like). In addition, please be aware that many conspiracy theories have roots in racism and anti-semitism, and Democratic Underground has zero tolerance for bigoted hate speech. In short, you take your chances.
In the former case, he told them to use the Trash This Forum function. In the latter case, he said no one should be surprised that Democrats would support a Democratic POTUS on a website named Democratic Underground.
While some people have clearly violated many of the TOS, the Admins get rid of them eventually. I find that they are unerring fair and open minded and cognizant of the variety of opinions here.
Some posters do nothing but scour the internet to post negative views on Obama. They never find anything he or the party has done as good, which indicates to me they either never were Dems, stopped being Dems, have joined the Libertarians in real life or in spirit. They will never have anything but negative things to say, as they are not advocating what DU advocates in the TOS:
'Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office.' When they have left the Dems behind in the dust, it's the right thing for them to bash and attack us. Not here, but anywhere. Rather hard to stop them, too, as they are extremely motivated as you can tell by the post counts.
So we have to grin and bear it just as those who can't stand that we exist will have to do the same. Those who cannot be honest or show the basic courtesy of respect this forum or any other, well...
That's why the Admins made the Ignore function. I don't allow anyone wipe their ass on me here or anywhere. And I'm not going to ever apologize for using what DU created to prevent being shit upon by people who cannot control themselves, or feel they are entitled to do so.

(22,541 posts)discussing what we experience out there does bring it in here, especially if generalizations are made. And we were all brought up not to name names or continue specific arguments from another thread.
That pretty much leaves us with sticking to our SOP and having no place to voice our frustrations. But, I don't see any way around that. We have always known this group was watched by DUers long before the current system. We want other DUers to read good things about the Obama agenda that are being done. They can get that here. And probably nowhere else on DU at this rate.
Personally, I wouldn't mind having a scream thread once in awhile. You know, just scream smileys. Or mad ones.

(68,644 posts)I think there was a discussion in the ATA forum about this, but can't find it.
It would be nice if people could opt in as well as opt out, but really they just need to watch what they are doing.
But I think the idea of starting new topics with"BOG" might help.

(305,196 posts)writing this at the end of my post .. FYI: THIS IS POSTED IN THE BARACK OBAMA GROUP and now I do this.. This is Posted in the Barack Obama Group and, it caught on for obvious reasons as de rigueur in starting a thread in the BOG. And, sometimes in the headline as in "For the BOG".
If we see a thread that doesn't have that at the end of the OP or in the Caption part we ask members to do it. It saves confusion and there's no excuses.
Thank you for asking these much needed questions for our Barack Obama Group.
In fact we should pin this for future BOG Thread starters.

(87,309 posts)A few I gave warnings to and they honored our group. I had one apologize to me, and then deleted their responses. They left the apology in the BOG. I thought that was a nice gesture.
Then we have the "or so they say" group.
I agree, every post should have a header stating that this is The Barack Obama Group.

A suggestion for my fellow BOGgers, though: If we are having an internal discussion, as we are just now, might we refrain from hitting the Rec button? I know, I sometimes do it automatically just to show I agree, but lately I've been asking myself if it's something I really want on the front page.
We have things we need to talk about regarding the functioning of the BOG, but there's no point in doing it in a completely hostile environment.
