I want to feel and share some of the spirit of Christmas. Therefore, I offer this impromptu Christmas party~
Before all is lost in the rush, I want to take a moment and enjoy. I put up a small tree today, I wasn't going to as I was tired. For me, in the retail end of the season so much is lost. Every year it gets worse. The hours get longer and shifts start earlier and open later. You grovel for time off to be with your family and friends.
For me Christmas is about family and sweet friends. We have children again to celebrate with, the next generation is blooming. I am thrice a great aunt. They are so sweet. Last year the two eldest, at the age of 6 and 3 asked their mom if they could buy some presents for the family. They took some of the money from their piggy banks and my niece took them to Michaels to shop. They picked up baskets and went around the store choosing each gift carefully.
I received a butterfly and a plastic necklace with my initial on it. I treasure both as priceless gifts. They were given from the heart.
They are why I wanted to take this moment to reflect and savor the holiday season. To me that is Christmas and it is indeed priceless~
Beauty and Peace...
Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday to one and all~
BOG I love you one and all!
Sweet Happy Holidays to DU~

Everybody! It is a beautiful time at the end of the year to communicate with and show our love for our family and friends. And, to think of those less fortunate~
President Obama dances with a child dressed as an elf as he joins entertainers on stage, including actress Jane Lynch and singer (sic) Mariah Carey, holding her daughter Monroe, at the end of the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on the Ellipse in Washington, December 6

(1,135 posts)of children, is one of life's greatest joys! I have four grandchildren, 2 boys and 2 girls, aged 6 to10. We all live within 5 minutes of each other and it's been seven years of tradition to come to Nana's house for lots of presents from
Nana and grandad - not Santa and a huge Christmas feast.
She, I know how gifts like that are so precious and I treasure all the sweet choices and those handmade gifts.
I've always made a big fuss with Christmas and birthdays, because it allows families to come together and celebrate the love we share with one another.
Merry Christmas to you, She and all my friends here in the BOG

(6,151 posts)At one point in my childhood, every house on our block was owned or occupied by relatives. That was a blast, you can bet. Lots of cousins to play with.
Not too Christmasy, I suppose, but there was a small convenience store - just a bodega, really - on the corner of the next block, so the kids got sent there on errands a lot. The owners started shortchanging the kids and wouldn't stop when the parents complained. So we all boycotted the store and urged others to do so; wasn't too long before the place went out of business.

(1,135 posts)Merry Christmas to you too, dear friend.
Reading your post made me realize again, how different things are today with our children. Now-a-days, we don't allow our kids to freely play outside without supervision. Before I was even 10, I'd ride my bike for miles, by myself the whole entire day. My parents and my friends parents usually didn't have a clue where any of us were for hours. Sending them alone, to the store is taboo now.
I'm glad that storekeeper lost out for taking advantage of kids. That's a low-life, huh?
Btw, when I say less than 5 mins away, that's only by car.... Not walking, unfortunately. Before that it was a long 12 hour drive! So we moved to this gawd-awful red area of Fl. to be closer. The whole family are dems, so we all suffer in silence, (except on FB), licking each other's political wounds....

(6,151 posts)That was the most hilarious movie - if you already knew Hitchcock and could pick up the references. Unfortunately, even in L.A. many didn't, and we kept hearing people mutter "Huh?" all around us, while we cackled like hyenas. I'm a big Mel Brooks fan.

(1,135 posts)Blazing Saddles was another very funny movie.
On a sad note, I felt awful about Anne Bancroft dieing too young and for Mel losing her. She was a wonderfully, good comic actress as well as drama.

(53,661 posts)I always find time to listen to this at this time of year. It has more than one set of lyrics:
Greensleeves:
Greensleeves
Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously.
For I have loved you well and long,
Delighting in your company.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
Your vows you've broken, like my heart,
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
I have been ready at your hand,
To grant whatever you would crave,
I have both wagered life and land,
Your love and good-will for to have.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
If you intend thus to disdain,
It does the more enrapture me,
And even so, I still remain
A lover in captivity.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
My men were clothed all in green,
And they did ever wait on thee;
All this was gallant to be seen,
And yet thou wouldst not love me.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
Thou couldst desire no earthly thing,
but still thou hadst it readily.
Thy music still to play and sing;
And yet thou wouldst not love me.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
Well, I will pray to God on high,
that thou my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I die,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu,
To God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy lover true,
Come once again and love me.
Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lover Greensleeves.
What Child Is This ~ Josh Groban
What child is this who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping
So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh
Come peasant king to own Him
The King of kings, salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone Him
This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him laud
The babe, the son of Mary
Raise, raise a song on high,
The mother sings her lullaby.
Joy, o joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap, on Mary's lap is sleeping?
This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him laud
The babe, the son of Mary
The babe, the son of Mary
the son of Mary.
They both make me cry.
