Sabrina Johnson with The Baby Tamer in Chief~

President Obama reaches down to 6-month-old Sabina Johnson, from Beaumont, Texas, who was visiting the Oval Office with her uncle, Elbek Elibaev, for his Make-A-Wish visit at the White House, April 11, 2014 (Photo by Pete Souza)

Obama, Make-A-Wish Cellist Meet At White House

Photo of the day: POTUS listens to make-a-wish cellist Khari Joyner in Oval Office today

This isn't the first time Obama has made a wish come true. Back in October, he welcomed Janiya Penny, an 8-year-old girl suffering from sickle cell anemia and the president's "number one fan" to the White House.

Another White House snapshot from June 2011 captured Obama fist-pumping Make-A-Wish recipient Diego Diaz in the Oval Office, after reading a letter the young boy wrote to the president.

Make-A-Wish® grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories, on average, every 38 minutes. We believe that a wish experience can be a game-changer. This one belief guides us. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.

"Last week, the heartwarming photograph of a young girl in tears after meeting President Obama took the Internet by storm.

The image, captured by White House photographer Pete Souza, features Janiya Penny, an 8-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who finally had her dream come true through the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Penny has sickle cell anemia, a life-threatening disease that often leaves her in excruciating pain. She was approached by Make-A-Wish almost three years ago. When they found out that she wanted to meet the President, they tried to get her to change her wish -- they just weren't sure they could make it happen."

of our only president with young children.

So many men, especially men in public office, just aren't comfortable with babies, and this man is. But not many, heck, not very many women either, are this comfortable with little strangers. I am NOT intending to trash all men, because many, maybe most, men are good fathers and husbands and so on. But he connects in a way that is truly wonderful.

with this gift. Bill Clinton, who also connects very well with people, is best with adults. I've never seen photos of him with young children. I've briefly met him at a couple of different political events, and what stands out about him is how he focusses so intently on whoever he is speaking with.

8. Wish Impact
Sat Apr 12, 2014, 09:46 PM
Apr 2014
According to the results of a 2011 Wish Impact Study that surveyed wish parents, health professionals, and volunteers, a wish come true empowers children with life-threatening medical conditions to fight harder against their illnesses.

When wish kids are granted a wish, they get more than just a great experience for a day, two days, or a week. That experience improves the quality of life for them and their entire family.

Health professionals treating them say the wish experience is an important adjunct to medical treatment, and they observe their patients feel better and comply more readily with treatment protocols when they experience their wish come true. And the community volunteers who grant wishes say the wish granting process heightens both their ability to see the best in others, and their commitment to actively help more people in need.

Improved Health Status

Health professionals who treat wish kids, including nurses and doctors, overwhelmingly believe that the wish experience can improve a wish kids’ physical health.

Saw your OP. Wonderful.

OMG Sabrina is adorable.

And for Khari, Janiya and Diego, their wish granted.

Thanks to President Obama for helping to improve their lives and make them fight stronger against their disease.

Penny has sickle cell anemia, a life-threatening disease that often leaves her in excruciating pain. She was approached by Make-A-Wish almost three years ago. When they found out that she wanted to meet the President, they tried to get her to change her wish -- they just weren't sure they could make it happen.

Penny, however, was resolute, says her mother, Breale Gray.

"I'm his number one fan," Penny told HuffPost.

It all began in 2008, Gray told HuffPost, when Penny and her mother closely followed the election of the first African-American president. Although Penny was only 4 at the time, her mother says that she already had a sense of the significance of the historical moment.

They stayed up late to watch President Obama give his inaugural speech. Penny proclaimed that it was due to her wearing her Obama T-shirt on election day that the President was able to win.

Almost four years later, on August 8, 2012, Penny finally got to meet her hero.

Penny's mother, brother, and grandfather all came along for the ride, and when they finally reached the Oval Office, Penny wasn't the only one crying.

Penny and her family were given the V.I.P. treatment at the White House, with a complete tour of the grounds, pictures with the President, and lots of gifts.

"He gave her a signed book of the Constitution, that says 'Best Wishes Janiya, Dream Big' and special buttons and tokens," Gray said.

"He signed my 'J' hat and gave me a bag of M&Ms," Penny added.

The day couldn't have been any better for the little girl, who remembers being able to climb under the guard ropes at the White House, sitting on all the couches, and seeing the Lincoln Memorial.

Happy Tears!

Hope to catch up a little now that things have slowed down a bit elsewhere. With this ancient computer and weak wi-fi signal, many times I can't even get online. But it seems to be doing okay for the moment, cross your fingers.

I have to post a compliment to the young man I've been working with on the radio show and charity. He posted a blistering smackdown right in Alex Jones' face on FB today, and of course I backed him up. Having grown up on conservative radio, he had, shall we say, a few more conservative views than I'm comfortable with when we first became acquainted. Liberal in many ways, but not completely so. To see him sock it to Jones like he just did - in defense of President Obama, yet! - made my day. Who knows, eventually he may wind up in totality to MY left! Wouldn't that be grand?

I can only take the tiniest bit of credit for introducing a few people into his life. But he was already on the way and may well have gotten where he is all on his own. I'm just so button-busting proud of him for that Jones bash. I'm sure he's aware of potential consequences.
