(30,058 posts)I admire his Cool Hand Luke attitude, I feel better about his decisions, they are made with thought and consideration. Now that we have experienced his actions on the bin Laden action I know he is working hard even though we do not see him doing so.

Pride. Yes, change takes time. I never expected that would happen over night. Nor did you, it happens slowly, yet it is here, you just need to listen.

(9,314 posts)First, let me say I have not agreed with every decision he has made. However, I did hear him warn us in his speech right after the 2008 election that we would not like everything he did, but regardless, he had gotten so much from us than he could give us. I took that to mean he was overwhelmed with the show of support the public had given him in his first election, and it saddened him to think there would be times he would disappoint his admiring base.
But inevitably, when we have a crisis situation and he gives a speech, I think back to the George W. Bush* days and what an embarrassment, even at times a disgrace that man was to the Office. President Obama has restored dignity to the Oval Office and has been a wonderful reflection on this Country and the population's choice of him to run the store.
I think perhaps when he finishes up this term, it will be difficult for anyone to step into his shoes and present the calm, cool deliberative posture to the office President Obama has shown. I do think he will go down as one of the greatest presidents of our time. It is simply a shame there are some Americans who cannot see past the color of his skin to the goodness of his heart. That is their loss.

(305,220 posts)Noam Levey: Number Of Latinos With Insurance Coverage Surges Under Healthcare Law
"The federal healthcare law has dramatically increased coverage among Latinos, according to a new report that provides a comprehensive look at the effects of the Affordable Care Act on a historically underinsured community. Overall, the percentage of Latinos ages 19 to 64 lacking health coverage fell from 36% to 23% between summer 2013 and spring 2014. That parallels a broader increase in coverage that has taken place since insurance marketplaces opened last fall and states began expanding Medicaid under the healthcare law.
The overall uninsured rate for U.S. adults under 65 plummeted from 20% to 15% in the same period, according to the Commonwealth Fund, a nonprofit group that studies U.S. and global health systems. Other surveys have shown similar declines. The Affordable Care Act appears to be working for millions of Latinos who, as a group, have long faced the nations highest uninsured rates, said the Commonwealth Funds Michelle Doty, the reports lead author. These substantial improvements will mean better health and healthcare for millions of people. The Medicaid expansion proved particularly important for Latinos, the Commonwealth Fund report indicates. In states that expanded Medicaid, including California, the uninsured rate among working-age Latino adults dropped by about half, from 35% to 17%."

(68,275 posts)There was a time in this country when, if the President was a good man, worked hard, and tried to do the greatest good for the greatest number of Americans, we stood behind him and supported his work.
And if he was a mediocrity, neglectful, incurious, made bad decisions, followed the advice of unreliable people, and deliberately did bad things to the people of America and the world at large, we opposed him, expressed our dissatisfaction, protested his perfidy, and voted against him in the next election.
These days, it seems the more good things President Obama does, the more bad people oppose him, obstruct him and disrespect him in the most filthy and despicable ways imaginable.
Not me.
I've got the President's back...

(6,151 posts)and I also know that polls are wickedly unreliable.
That said, however, some major outfit came out with a poll lately showing that if the haters' votes were disregarded, President Obama's approval rating shot up to the high 80's somewhere.
So he IS wildly popular and beloved by non-racists.
