I love my President...

via Tom Joad/FB
By Sue Bell

I love my President, I love that he’ll just come right out and say that “Rape is a rape, it’s a crime.” It’s as simple as that to him and it needs no apologizing for. He doesn’t tell us that it’s a blessing or a gift from God. He places no guilt upon the survivors for whatever path they may choose after, and doesn’t suggest we keep aspirin between our knees. He separates pro choice from being “pro no choice.”

I love my President and the way he doesn’t hesitate to hug someone who really needs it, whether its fallen representative Gabrielle Giffords or a woman devastated by a hurricane or another by the death or her sister from breast cancer because she could not receive medical attention.

I love my President and the fact that he’s not afraid to embrace decent republicans who will work toward the common good, that doesn’t mean agreeing with him upon every issue but it does mean putting the citizens of our nation in mind before checks from the likes of the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson.

I love that my President can keep a clear head and despite immense pressure make the decisions for our nation instead of plunging headlong into a costly war. I love his diplomacy and respect for other countries and their culture and religions.

I love my President because he’s been a champion for the middleclass by cutting taxes for small businesses eighteen times and lowering the tax rate of the middle class overall. I appreciate that he minces no words when he says the wealthiest Americans can afford to pay a higher tax rate back to the country which helped foster their greatness.

I love that my President cares so deeply about the troops who have given more than their all in the past eleven years he donated $200,000(out of his Nobel Peace Prize winnings) to the Fisher House which provides housing for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers, and signed expanded funding for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

I love the fact that he is so focused on the education and the commonwealth bettering itself collectively he increased funding for student financial aid, signed the Post 9-11 GI Bill, and with the First Lady passed the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.

I love no matter how vicious and false an attack against him and his family is they keep their heads held high and continue to love this country.

I love my President and all that he has done to bring progress and hope back to this nation once again.
