Sadly, the President can't accept gifts. They need to find someplace to use it before it goes south. kestrel91316 Nov 2012 #2

The best truffle each year has been given to a noted personality. When it was given to Harry Truman, he didn't know what it was. Because of its strong odor, the White House thought it was spoiled and tossed it. Our sister city is Alba, Italy, famous for its white truffles. One year, when my father was mayor, he received the Truffle of the Year. The local postmaster, who was also on the city council, made the same mistake.

I've heard of them, but no one could ever describe how they tasted and why they were so highly prized. Did I read that pigs will root them up and that's how they hunt them, or was that something else?

I hope Obama gives them the honor of accepting them in person. That was a nice gesture and we need all the friends we can get.

Since Tuesday night, I have been overwhelmed with Skype calls, emails and tweets from my friends in Italy. They are overjoyed.
