WASHINGTON (AP) Hard-line conservatives began an uphill fight Friday to force a fresh House vote this fall on erasing much of President Barack Obamas health care law without an immediate replacement, the latest instance of Republican rifts in whats been a fractious week for the GOP.
The effort by the House Freedom Caucus seemed to have no chance of passing Congress. The GOP-led Senate turned down a similar repeal-only bill last month, and top House Republicans have little interest in refighting a health care battle they were relieved to put aside after their chamber approved legislation in May.
With the partys repeal effort collapsing last month in the Senate, the conservatives push gives them a fresh chance to show hard-right voters theyve not surrendered. It also provides a chance to call attention to Republican lawmakers whove pledged to tear down Obamas law but havent voted to do so with Donald Trump in the White House.
Its not about calling out anyone, its about doing what we said, said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a Freedom Caucus leader. And I do think people deserve to see if their member of Congress is going to do what they campaigned on.

(7,220 posts)1) They did everything they could to weaken the ACA back when it was being created (despite their lies to the contrary, they WERE involved in the crafting process, and yet they still refused to vote for it, just on principle)
2) They know there are ways to improve the current ACA law, but are too stubborn/stupid/spiteful to do that
3) They refuse to admit that the ACA works very well for millions of people, despite those very same people screaming it from the rooftops at them.
So they pretend that the only way to "save Americans from this devastating failure" is to repeal it entirely. It's like saying "I see you have a treatable medical condition, so we're recommending you jump off a cliff".
