Senate has approved $15.25 billion in disaster aid in deal to extend debt limit and keep government open

By Kelsey Snell September 7 at 2:34 PM

BREAKING: The Senate has approved $15.25 billion in disaster aid as part of an agreement struck by President Trump and congressional Democrats that will also raise the federal borrowing limit and keep the government open until December 8.

The House is expected to quickly vote on the package, despite growing opposition from fiscal conservatives who oppose pairing aid with debt and spending elements.

The Senate package doubles the total amount of disaster aid approved by the House on Wednesday.
