If Sanders becomes the next POTUS,
Democrats will hold 49 US Senate seats, Republicans will hold 51 US Senate seats. Republicans retain control of the US Senate until the winner of the 2021 VT US Senate special election is decided which is likely to be a Democrat.
If Biden becomes the next POTUS,
Democrats will hold 50 US Senate seats, Republicans will hold 50 US Senate seats. Republicans will lose control of the US Senate on January 20,2021- the day Biden is inaugurated.
