The last two years have been the hardest of my life.
My son Chris was just 20 years old when he and five others were murdered in a shooting rampage near the University of California, Santa Barbara. One moment, he was just a sophomore English major, grabbing a snack with friends at a deli near campus in the next, his life was stolen from him without warning.

The media often refer to tragedies like my sons death as random acts. But gun violence has become all too commonplace. Every year, 33,000 Americans each one of them someones son or daughter are killed by guns. Thats more than three times as many gun deaths as in any other developed country. And there is nothing random about our nations inaction.

Hillary has spent her career working to end gun violence. She has brought the issue
front and center as a presidential candidate, and I truly believe shell make it her mission to address it as president. That means standing up to the all-powerful gun lobby, enacting comprehensive background checks, and keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and other dangerous individuals.
And we cant wait any longer.

I will do anything I can to keep other families from going through the unimaginable pain weve been through. Thats why Im speaking out now, and its why Im putting my faith in Hillary.

(521 posts)The father was also very outspoken at the time. Joe the phony Plumber told him (and the other parents) that their dead kids didn't trump his constitutional rights to own guns. Talk about lacking compassion.

(15,438 posts)should be a no-brainer. Our president and congresscritters shouldn't try and push for laxer laws but try to find common ground in order to bring the tragedy of losing one's innocent child and all innocent people's lives to a minimum. We can do that - but we can't have gun-ho politicians undermining the tiny baby-steps of progress we want to make.
Hillary Clinton, just like President Obama, understands this. The vast majority of Democrats want this. That's what we need in our president and congresscritters. As long as Repubs have power in our U.S. House and Senate, we'll be vulnerable to horrific acts of gun violence that we see becoming much too commonplace in our society.
