Clinton called for the reinstatement of commonsense gun safety reform in the wake of the worst mass shooting in US history at a gay nightclub in Floridahttp://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jun/13/hillary-clinton-commonsense-gun-safety-reform-orlando-attack
We cant fall into the trap set up by the gun lobby that says if you cannot stop every shooting you shouldnt try to stop any, she said.
Clintons tough stance on gun control sets up a torrid fight with her Republican rival for the White House Donald Trump, who has positioned himself as a champion of the second amendment and dismissed any calls for greater gun controls as weakness. She insisted that while she did believe that law-abiding American citizens have the right to own guns, it was also possible to see that reasonable, commonsense measures could be taken that would make people more safe from guns.
Rattling off all the ways that Florida allows the proliferation of guns the state doesnt regulate assault weapons or large capacity magazines, doesnt require a permit to buy a gun or oblige owners of weapons to be licensed she said: Thats a lot of nots. I believe strongly that commonsense gun safety reform across our country would make a difference. We know the gunman used a weapon of war to shoot down at least 50 innocent Americans.

Enough with this NRA "good guy with a gun" myth. When are people going to come to their senses?

(1,630 posts)Thank you for this, BlueMtexPat. Hillary is the right person to lead us to commonsense solutions on guns. She, like Obama, understands that we as a country must do something to stop the thousands of innocent lives taken so brutally every year.

(1,183 posts)The AR 15 is the M 16.
It is a weapon used, primarily, by riflemen in combat formations. It is used in combat situations to kill the enemy. It is not a hunting weapon; it is a not a self defense used by civilians.
It is a weapon of war.

(15,496 posts)Trump an uninterrupted - and uncritical - time to spew hatred of everything and everyone - except GUNS - on the world stage right now!

And my spouse who insists on watching the epitome of hatred that Trump expresses is walking a VERY fine line right now.
Very fine!

We are currently in a small apartment (one which I love) but there isn't really enough space to go to get away from such crap.

(521 posts)Why does your husband insist on watching it? Is he a masochist? I can't stomach seeing or hearing Trump.

(15,496 posts)I was VERY surprised ... and VERY unhappy with him. I still am ... and he knows it! Perhaps it was a bit of contrarianism.
I can't stomach Trump at all. His hate-speech is simply intolerable. My husband IS a Hillary supporter - which is why he is still in the apartment right now.
