Hillary Clinton

To lose by more than 10 percent in 2016, as Trump could easily do, would be a remarkable achievement of sorts, given how evenly split Americans have been in recent years and how reluctant they are to leave their preferred parties. The last election even approaching a landslide was in 1996, when Bill Clinton defeated Bob Dole by an eight-point margin. Since then, elections have been tight. Even in 2008, when the Democrats should by all rights have won massivelywith Republicans dragged down by an unpopular war and the start of the biggest economic recession since 1929, and with John McCain facing the most talented politician of the last generationBarack Obamas victory was only by a 7-percent margin, which narrowed to four in 2012.
Trump seems destined to break this patternand if his campaign continues on its current trajectory, its not inconceivable that he could tally less that 40 percent of the vote, which no candidate has managed since George H.W Bush in 1992, 24 years ago, in a three-person race. This is only partially because Trumps polling numbers have taken a dive recently; a recent Bloomberg poll shows Clinton enjoying a double-digit lead over Trump, getting 49 percent to his 37 percent. But the Bloomberg poll is only a snapshot of a moment, and poll numbers are likely to fluctuate as the race proceeds. The real reason to think Trump will tank in an historical way on election day has to do with the essential nature of the unorthodox campaign Trump is running, as against Clintons more traditional effort.
much more good news....

I also think she will get many, many Republican women. People like Ana Navarro have practically said so.

(23,287 posts)I live in liberal SF and have yet to meet a con man supporter. My husband who works for a major airline works with some right wingers who support him and they have daily 1 hour commutes each way and have been steadily poisoned by savage, limp, hannity and levin. The ones who have the longest commutes are extreme right winger the shorter commuters are more liberal. Plus these right wing +$35 dollar an hour union workers have been brainwashed to think unions are bad even though they make good money.

(23,287 posts)You are right he is loud, thinks he knows it all and is pretty stupid and a loser. 33 years, lives with his Mother, brought a $35,000 truck and he has a long work commute everyday to his $13 dollar an hour job. He will be paying off that truck for 6 years and then after that he says he's saving for a home. I had to walk away from him when he told me this because I wanted to laugh in his face.

(9,494 posts)is not their style. My state is always Blue in federal elections so I usually just ignore their political BS. But lately, whenever they say anything even slightly political, I point at them laugh and say "Trump" in a really sarcastic voice. At least the have the decency to look embarrassed.

(28,833 posts)It has all the signs of a major blowout, but goofy stuff happens. If not for the perfect storm and a tiny bump in the polls at the last minute (among other issues, like Ohio), Bush loses in 2004.
That being said, you can't lose nearly every demographic group and win a national election. Electorally, this has the hallmarks of a beatdown. If so, the Senate and some significant migration in the House would be helpful.

(12,448 posts)By all that is sane and rational, Trump should not get a single vote. However, let's think back. Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush...NONE of those should have been allowed near the White House. Yet, they all served two terms, even when it was clear their first terms were disasters. Yes, Trump is worse even than Bush, but people sometimes vote for irrational reasons.
Bottom line: we need to work. GOTV is the key to victory.
