(5,648 posts)A similar thing happen when Bill gave Obama a huge boost with a speech back in 2008. Remember, people have know that Hillary won the nomination for weeks now. That's not NEWS. The fact that she was formally declared the nominee, the first woman nominee of a major party, is big for us, but it is old news for the public at large. On the other hand Bill giving a fantastic speech to promote his wife's candidacy is big NEWS for everyone.

I guess no one thought - maybe a photo of Hillary?
More likely - no one thought.

(5,648 posts)Bill gave a 40 minute speech. Plenty of timely pictures of Bill available, none but file photos of Hillary available of Hillary yesterday.

(16,104 posts)But none of these excuses are reason enough to put Bill Clinton as the representative snapshot of his wifes historic victory, of the night the first woman is nominated for president by a major party.

(5,648 posts)But again unless you were following the convention closely yesterday, and probably most people are not, Bill Clinton speaking at the convention was news, that Hillary Clinton is (officially) the first women to be the nominee of a major party was old news to most people.
Articles and pictures above the fold sell newspapers. Apparently newspapers editors believe Bill Clinton giving a speek will sell more newspapers than Hillary Officially becoming the nominee.

(16,104 posts)Editors think Bill sells more pictures than Hillary.
And that's the point.
Just another perspective, CB - we are on the same team!
In fact, I'm just down the highway from you!

(2,542 posts)If papers wanted a convention picture, it would either have been a picture of the screen displaying HRC, or the headline speaker from that night of the convention, i.e. Bill.
Plenty of days ahead, after HRC speaks live later this week, for her to dominate front pages.

Weird, huh?

Lots of love for BS.
You'd think it would be for our historic nominee?

(16,104 posts)Trump is "all in" on "white male" voters.
We need to be aware first, and then see why "white male" voters overwhelmingly support an unqualified, inexperienced, celebrity fascist - over a woman who can't get her face on the front-page headline proclaiming her historic victory!

(5,648 posts)As a dude, you should take it as a complement. I hear that a lot of women like guys like us who are "sensitive". Sorry I could find an emoji which represent sensitive so I used "cool".

(55,815 posts)When Hillary wins, we will no longer have a First Lady in the White House and there's been talk of what a man in that position could be called but to the best of my recollection nothing has been settled on.

(55,815 posts)P.S. There's also the fact that Bill Clinton used to have his finger on the button, now he may have to be spending his time cleaning the button.
