Hillary Clinton clinched a historic nomination. So why does her husband get the front page photo?

Fusion, by Kelsey McKinney

Last night, Hillary Rodham Clinton made American history by becoming the first woman nominated by a major political party for president of the United States. In celebration and recognition of this great achievement, major newspapers around the world splashed their front pages with big banner headlines—and then placed a giant photo of her husband underneath.

A similar thing happen when Bill gave Obama a huge boost with a speech back in 2008. Remember, people have know that Hillary won the nomination for weeks now. That's not NEWS. The fact that she was formally declared the nominee, the first woman nominee of a major party, is big for us, but it is old news for the public at large. On the other hand Bill giving a fantastic speech to promote his wife's candidacy is big NEWS for everyone.

seem to be a little discordant.

I guess no one thought - maybe a photo of Hillary?

More likely - no one thought.

Bill gave a 40 minute speech. Plenty of timely pictures of Bill available, none but file photos of Hillary available of Hillary yesterday.

Sure, newspapers like to run a photo from the actual day an event took place. Yes, Bill was inarguably the biggest name to speak in Philadelphia last night (he used to be president!). And yes, Hillary Clinton wasn’t physically standing on the stage.

But none of these excuses are reason enough to put Bill Clinton as the representative snapshot of his wife’s historic victory, of the night the first woman is nominated for president by a major party.

But again unless you were following the convention closely yesterday, and probably most people are not, Bill Clinton speaking at the convention was news, that Hillary Clinton is (officially) the first women to be the nominee of a major party was old news to most people.

Articles and pictures above the fold sell newspapers. Apparently newspapers editors believe Bill Clinton giving a speek will sell more newspapers than Hillary Officially becoming the nominee.

Editors think Bill sells more pictures than Hillary.

And that's the point.

Just another perspective, CB - we are on the same team!

In fact, I'm just down the highway from you!

If papers wanted a convention picture, it would either have been a picture of the screen displaying HRC, or the headline speaker from that night of the convention, i.e. Bill.

Plenty of days ahead, after HRC speaks live later this week, for her to dominate front pages.

Weird, huh?

Lots of love for BS.

You'd think it would be for our historic nominee?

Trump is "all in" on "white male" voters.

We need to be aware first, and then see why "white male" voters overwhelmingly support an unqualified, inexperienced, celebrity fascist - over a woman who can't get her face on the front-page headline proclaiming her historic victory!

When Hillary wins, we will no longer have a First Lady in the White House and there's been talk of what a man in that position could be called but to the best of my recollection nothing has been settled on.

P.S. There's also the fact that Bill Clinton used to have his finger on the button, now he may have to be spending his time cleaning the button.
