Guatemala City, Jul 18 (EFE).- Guatemalas Supreme Electoral Tribunal (SET) on Tuesday again told the public ministry (prosecutors office) that it will not suspend the Movimiento Semilla party led by presidential candidate Bernardo Arévalo de León after a new move against the group.
The public ministry was informed in a document delivered by the SET in response to a new request Tuesday by the prosecutors office to suspend the political party.
The request, endorsed by a criminal judge of the judiciary, is a new attempt by the prosecutors office to suspend the party, which won a shock second place in the first round of the general election on June 25.
Last week, the public ministry caused a political earthquake in suspending Semilla for an alleged case of corruption, and demanded the expulsion of the group from the election.
