A Cambuslang family's "trip of a lifetime" in Mexico turned into a living nightmare after a man was shot three times in the face at the poolside of their resort.

Katrina Butler and her husband Bryan whisked their three sons away to Cancun, Mexico, staying at a five-star hotel, as they celebrated the school holidays and the couple's 50th as an early birthday treat.

However, only three days into their holiday the family witnessed a horrific attack, leaving them shaken and utterly traumatised.

Mum-of-three, Katrina, claims to have witnessed a man shot dead at the poolside, while families were just yards away. At the time, Katrina and her husband Bryan decided to cool off in the water, a few seconds later they heard gunshots.

But maybe what they need to focus on is how fortunate they were that none of them were hit by any of the bullets. And look for a country with less gun violence for their next vacation.

Through shops and hotels, etc. Perhaps if more people are dissuaded by the violence -and it effects the tourist industry substantially, companies will find it behooves them to lobby in favor of reasonable gun laws in the US (as it seems to be well established most guns used in that violence originate in the US).
