(7,659 posts)We're they found in Colombia? Or Gotham (New York) or where. Who were the girls?
Why did he go back and forth to Florida?

(17,433 posts)Apparently they did the equivalent of a booking and release.
He then left the country without paying the proper bribes.
His lawyers will work it out.

(17,433 posts)This guy made the news for being an american I suspect. He will pay some "fines", and the charges will disappear due to a lack of evidence.
It's how many of these things go unless there is overwhelming publicity and diplomatic pressure.
There was another case from thailand with a german national. He also conveniently slipped away but publicity may shame the govt into actually taking him to trial. Hasn't happened yet.
Unless local governments step up and aggressively prosecute these crimes, the abuses will continue. That's why you care about this guy.

He left the U.S. from Fort Lauderdale and arrived in Medellin. When he was released by the Medellin police, he flew back to Fort Lauderdale.
The article did not say where he was from.

I want the whole world to know who this depraved person is, because I want it not only to be known in Colombia, but to be known in the United States or in any country. Someone who believes that they can come to our city to do whatever they want with our children and adolescents is very wrong and I want people everywhere to replicate that name so that at least while justice arrives in a case like these, At least there will be public ridicule and there will be a social sanction, said the Medellin president, who added that if necessary he will request Livingstons extradition.

An American is surprised with two minors in a luxurious hotel in Medellín
The man was identified as Timothy Alan Livingston, but he managed to flee to the United States
The case of an American who entered a hotel in Medellín with two minors has outraged Colombia , given what is presumed to be an event of child sexual exploitation.
Authorities identified the subject as Timothy Alan Livingston , 36 years old. Information recorded in his passport shows that he is a native of Ohio, United States.
The subject arrived last week in Medellín on a flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. On March 27, Livingston tried to enter a hotel in the town of El Poblado accompanied by two minors, whom he tried to pass off as adults. However, the security guard, suspecting that the subject was lying about the girls' ages, did not allow him access.
At dawn on March 28, when the guard had finished his turbo, Livingston managed to enter with two other minors.
A neighbor alerted the authorities, who went to the hotel and rescued the girls, about whom no information has been given to protect their privacy. They were taken to a medical center to be evaluated.
Police did not immediately arrest Livingston, who left Colombia on March 29 on a flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The escape outraged Colombians, who demanded justice from the mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez. The authorities decided to suspend the hotel's activities for at least 10 days, which will determine whether a case of child sexual exploitation was allowed to occur there.
The hotel management alleges that the American "outwitted and violated" the hotel's security schemes.
"I want the whole world to know who this depraved person is. Let it not only be known in Colombia, but also in the United States," commented the mayor.
Gutierrez was furious that Livingston fled, but said that won't stop him. "This person, even though he has managed to leave the country, does not believe that he was saved from this case. If it is necessary to request the extradition of this citizen so that he can pay jail time here in Colombia, it will also be requested through collaboration with the government of the United States and justice," he said.
Gutiérrez called it "ridiculous" that the hotel's activities have only been suspended for 10 days. "The case is still under investigation. The minors are under the protection of state entities while all interviews, medical checkups and the restoration of rights are carried out," he added.
Questioned why the American was allowed to leave the hotel freely, Gutiérrez said: "Am I the Police, Prosecutor's Office or Immigration? I have the same indignation that any citizen has when knowing that this depraved person could leave the country. More should have been done and "This guy should have been presented before a prosecutor and a judge."
For now, in a first measure, Gutiérrez signed two decrees this Monday that seek to prevent the occurrence of cases of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the capital of Antioquia and combat the actions of criminal structures in this crime.
One of the provisions of the district administration is to suspend for six months the demand and request for sexual services or related activities in the public space of El Poblado Park, Lleras Park, Provenza and other surrounding areas.
Likewise, Gutiérrez explained that the other measure is the implementation of a pilot plan to modify the operating hours of restaurants, bars and nightclubs in this sector of El Poblado for one month.
According to the provision of the Medellín mayor's office, nightlife will be allowed until 1 in the morning and not until 4, as is currently the case.

We both agree that this guy bought his way out of jail. Not all of Medellin police are corrupt, but some are.
