High-Fives and Dope Slaps: Did the Grinch steal Christmas charity this year? (Kerry related)

In a move that is not that frequent in the Boston Globe, this blog gives a high five to Kerry

High Five: John Kerry meets with Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. I’m pretty surprised this move didn't inspire more outrage among the right wing in the blogosphere; I only read one negative article, in the National Review.

It’s true that the Muslim Brotherhood played a major role in founding Hamas and that they’re typically anti-American, but that just gives us even more reason to get ahead of the game and try to establish diplomatic ties with them. The “Brotherhood” was elected by 40 percent of the Egyptian people, so we have to recognize them as a legitimate political force. Taking a hard-line political stance against them will just heighten the perception that America is anti-Muslim at a time where we could use allies in the Middle East. To ignore the popular election of Egypt’s new government would be risking the loss of a critical ally.

Good of Warren to finally post something about civil rights. Note however that the Globe tries to make Brown less anti-gay rights than he is.

Maybe because I looked in the blogospere - National Review is not exactly the blogospere. It was more toned down than I would have expected given their Islamophobia.

It is rather pathetic how the Boston Globe pushes Brown as much as they do - given that he is pretty mediocre at best.

WASHINGTON D.C. – With full Senate approval still pending, Republican Sen. Scott Brown has pledged his support for legislation that aims to reduce the country's lung cancer mortality rates by 50 percent over the next eight years.
...
Brown's commitment to the bill's passage puts him in line with Democratic legislators from the Bay State, including Sen. John Kerry and Representatives Barney Frank, Stephen Lynch, John Olver and John Tierney.

What the Republican (which is generally a good paper) forgets to tell us is that Kerry is one of the original sponsors of the bill, introduced in April, and that it took 8 months for Brown to become co-sponsor. Now, I realize that everybody cannot be early co-sponsor of a bill, but it seems that the Republican is making too much an hero of Brown.

At least, the original PR from the Lung Cancer Association tells us that he is late in the game and that Kerry is an original cosponsor. Interesting that this disappears in the article.
