Teresa Heinz Kerry's condition improves
By Gillian Spear, NBC News

Teresa Heinz Kerry’s medical condition continues to improve after a weekend episode prompted her hospitalization, according to a spokesman for her husband, Secretary of State John Kerry.

Heinz Kerry, 74, was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Sunday following an experience of seizure-like symptoms at the family's Nantucket home. Her condition was upgraded from critical to fair Monday.

Doctors have not yet identified the cause of the ketchup heiress’ ailment but have been able to rule out possible triggers including heart attack, stroke and brain tumor, the spokesman said.

In a statement, the family expressed gratitude for the "messages of comfort from other MGH patients, former staff, Senate and House colleagues and members of the Executive Branch, as well as many dear and longtime friends and the Secretary's 2004 presidential campaign team."

With his wife’s condition improving, Kerry will return to Washington on Tuesday for a brief trip where he and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will co-host a strategic and economic dialogue with senior Chinese officials.

Have had two friends who were breast cancer survivors get a malignant brain tumor nearly a decade of being all clear from the breast cancer. One to two years later, they had died.

In both instances the docs said the brain cancer was a primary and not related to previous breast cancer. I still have trouble believing that.

I'll never forget THK pronouncing your name with such enjoyment in inimitable tones.

Thank God they've ruled out the worst! And we know JK would not be leaving unless things really looked OK.

Thank you for posting it - great to see you here!

I really wish they would stop referring to her as the ketchup heiress - she is far more than that!

I am SOO relieved to know that Teresa is getting better. I also hope (and trust) that MGH will continue to do a good job, figure out what happened, and work to prevent a recurrence. She is such a great lady.

It's wonderful to have you here again. How are you doing, Whome?

I hope they are working diligently to find, and eliminate, the cause of the seizure. THK needs to hang around a bit longer!
