John Kerry
Related: About this forumBest Secretary of State in my life time
Though many many people contributed to the Climate Change deal and to the Iran deal -- it is very very clear that John Kerry was an essential, maybe irreplaceable person on both. On climate change, he supposedly told Obama that he wanted to be for fighting climate change what Hillary was for women's issues, but was told that no one thought that there was much chance to do much diplomatically on climate change. He was key in making the China/US pact happen, which was essential for the Lima conference and obviously was a major thing that set the stage for today.
Even the neo cons who do not like him at all, will have trouble disputing that he has been a very skilled Secretary of State.
But ... even as there is a triumph here, he is co chairing a peace conference in Rome on the UN backed plan for Libya .. and going to Moscow to work later in the week on moving forward on a Syrian political and ceasefire.

(2,992 posts)When JK made that comment today about coutioness over the deal, unfortunely French TV implyed that US was trying to sabotage. (They didnt bothered to know better about Kerrys lifelong engagement to the issues.).
I was glad he did. He was realistict and down-to -earth. Better hearing that than the usual American arrogance.

(9,688 posts)He is the right man at the right time. And we benefit from his unrelenting commitment, his optimism, his integrity, his deep knowledge of foreign affairs, American politics and environmental issues, and his diplomatic persistence, subtlety and creativity.
John Kerry gives me hope for the future of our country and our democracy.
Bravo, Sec. Kerry!
