International mayors' conference on climate change, Boston - Kerry and Gina McCarthy among speakers

Last edited Fri Jun 8, 2018, 04:03 PM - Edit history (1)

Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is calling the decision by President Donald Trump to pull out of the Paris climate accord a “tragedy” but said states and private sector leaders are trying to meet the goal of reducing greenhouse gases anyway.

The Democratic former senator from Massachusetts helped negotiate the accord. He said Trump misled the public by suggesting it allowed other nations to place a burden on the United States when the country only agreed to do what it could without hurting its economy.

Mayors and top municipal officials from across the globe are planning to participate in the gathering Thursday hosted by Democratic Boston Mayor Martin Walsh.

The gathering is being billed as a chance for city executives and other leaders to share ideas on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the challenges posed by climate change.

Here is a link to watch the conference. Kerry is part of a "fireside chat" at slightly after 3 hr 45 min, Gina McCarthy who is incredible and far more colorful in her speech than her fellow Bostonian is at 5 hr and 57 minutes.
