Kerry wins in a landslide (46 to 39) when MA people are asked their favorite Senator

I am so happy that someone finally polled that - as you can't prove that higher favorables mean that.

-John Kerry (50/38) and Deval Patrick (48/37) both have solid if not spectacular approval ratings. Kerry can at least claim bragging rights over seat mate Scott Brown- 46% say Kerry's their favorite Senator to 39% for his junior colleague.

Given how negative almost EVERYONE in Congress, the President, and the Republican candidates are polling, Kerry's and Patrick's number look pretty good.

In the earlier release, in addition to showing Warren leading by 5 points, Brown's numbers are (45/42) - which was an improvement from last fall. However, he is seen by fewer as independent. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_MA_320.pdf

Don't know the magazine's history (though the editor follows OFA MA, M. Obama, E. Warren, Brownie on Twitter), but guess that people will never, ever forgive him for everything 2004 and will always hold some sort of grudge.

Not from MA and don't have dogs and cats in the fight, but wish everyone the best. Also, congrats to Ayanna Pressley on making the list.

Sorry, given that he has been reelected by nearly 70 % of the vote in 2008 and has been the most popular MA pol for a while now (or one of the most popular and more popular than Brown), I think the comment is absolutely stupid.

Note: not sure for Patrick Doyle, but Boston Magazine is not a left leaning magazine (They LOVE Brown). The fact that a political editor follows pols in MA is not exactly surprising, particularly on an election year.

Good for Ayanna to make the list, though.

Note: The fact that Carmen Ortiz is n 3 in the list should tell us a lot. Yes, she oversaw the conviction of a couple of corrupted MA Democratic pol, but does that make her more powerful than the state governor? I have nothing against her and I am sure she is great (She is rumored to have political ambitions in the state), but it seems that her only reason to be in the list is that she has the power to send Dems to jail. This gives me a great idea of where the author stands.

I missed this one, though I am not surprised. Unfortunately, it will not stop the naysayers. Some people live in an alternate reality and will continue to think that Kerry is disliked even if he gets 100 % of favorability.

We like to diss our pols and our sports teams, even when they perform. This is ingrained in MA DNA, I think.

On a loosely related topic, Brown has decided to transfer from the MA National Guard to the MD National Guard because Democrats prevent him to do his duty in MA (not very clear how, but this is the rational). I think that he is just trying to increase his resume by writing Pentagon National Guard, but he is just a whiner.

It is very misleading to include a poll that old without saying so and including Warren is rather unfair as she had far more people not answering either way.

Yes, it is true that Warren was not that well known at that point, but most of the polls since then, while showing her making some progress, still find a lot of people not having an opinion on her (including the one you posted).

I hope that the PPP poll is good, but it is not really in sync with other polls done recently, and some internals are weird (more men than women, though this should help Brown, and the stats for Democrats are high: 45 % when the enrollment is 35 %, no geographic or economical stats for the sample. I will wait for other polls to confirm this one.

Like you, I think the PPP results should be taken with a grain of salt. The shift from the two earlier polls is pretty big. The demographics (which I hadn't looked at) are pretty strange - though they are self reported which could differ from registration. The Blunt amendment vote was March 1, the others were before it - though one was just a day earlier and he was known to be a co-sponsor.

It does seem the type of very intense issue where it could shift votes, but netting 10 points when the position was known until after the vote seems hard to believe. Clearly Brown did surge with all the positive press in the beginning of the year.
