This weather is driving me nuts!!!!!! For I do not remember how long, if it is a day in the mid-90s, it's a "cool" day. Except for 2 or 3 sprinkles (in fairness, once, a couple of weeks ago, it was an actual rain, for maybe 10-15 minutes) it's nothing but dry all around. I live in the country, one hour east of St. Louis (one of the worst areas, I think), the cord fields I drive through almost make me cry. It's almost an apocaliptic, end of the world, feeling. I am directly affected mainly because of the AC running non-stop (thanks God I have a relatively new and efficient system), but I had some chats with my closest neighbors, small poor farmers, their main source of income is a cattle herd, meat cows, they are close to desperate, I di dnot completely undersatnd the details, but I think they were saying that because of not enough food they will have to sacrifice many more than they intended to, and it took many years to grow the herd to its current size. We are helping them by allowing them to get water from the huge pond, more like a small lake that we draw water for the house from, he comes twice daily to get water from it, but we cannot help with the food. teh corn he grows for this purpose has died. I dare not go to the lake myself, to see how it looks. I am sure there is still plenty of water, but it may have gone down so much that the system that my husband put together to bring water to the house may run into problems (and my hisband has been away since early June and won't be back until mid-september) in which case I have no idea what I will do. I keep checking weather.com, and I feel like throwing something at my screen when I see "expect draght to continue". It's really, really bad around here (and in many other places in the heartland).
Sorry for the venting, I just needed to let some steam out after another frustrating visit to weather.com to check how the next 10 days might look like.
... Several years ago, I drove through your area and saw all those corn fields...stretching for miles and miles. It must be difficult to watch them dry up. I hope things get better for you and your family soon, Inuca.
